The predecessor of the School of Information Engineering is the Department of Computer Applications, China University of Geosciences (Beijing) which was founded in 1993. After discipline adjustment, merging and expansion, the School of Information Engineering, China University of Geosciences (Beijing) was officially set up in 1999. Since its establishment, the School has upheld the great tradition of China University of Geosciences—“frugal in life, diligent in work.” Guided by the schooling philosophy of “offering characteristic and excellent courses,” it seeks to adapt itself to the higher education development trend in the new era and strives to make innovations, taking “fostering innovative, versatile talents who demonstrate outstanding practical abilities” as its ultimate mission. After several years of exploration and endeavors, it has forged clear schooling thoughts, put in place a reasonable discipline layout, and gradually formed its distinctive features as a geologic information engineering school.
