The Interpreting Committee of Translators Association of China Founded

On October 22, 2016, the 11th National Conference and International Forum on Interpreting was held in Zhejiang Normal University. And the Interpreting Committee of Translators Association of China (TAC) was officially established at the opening ceremony of the conference, for which a brief and solemn inauguration ceremony was held.

Wang Gangyi, Deputy Director of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Senior Vice President and Secretary General of TAC as well as Council Member of International Federation of Translators (FIT) introduced the foundation background and aim of the of Committee in his speech. The founding ceremony was hosted by Prof. Zhan Cheng, Secretary General of the Committee and Deputy Dean of School of Interpreting & Translation Studies of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), who released the basic information, scope of service and leading organs of the Committee and read the congratulatory letter from International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC). And Wang Gangyi granted appointment certificates to head members present.

The Interpreting Committee is the 12th branch founded with the approval of the standing council of TAC. Its service ranges are as follows: in the realm of interpreting, uniting interpreters and relevant institutes to strengthen cooperation and promote the order and healthy development of the field; holding various academic and practiced activities related to interpreting; undertaking services, counseling, training, etc.; doing research, strengthening industry self-discipline and regulating behaviors in the industry; participating in the formulation of industrial norms and criteria and the industry promotion; protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the practitioners in the industry; exchanging and cooperating with relevant overseas institutes to boost the academic and practiced relations.

The Interpreting Committee will carry out work under the leadership of TAC. Currently, the Committee has initiated the drafting of control regulations, project management methods and annual working plan and will go on establishing and improving various rules and regulations and tighten internal management. TAC has the rights to supervise the activities of the committee according to the regulations of relevant policies and laws. The Committee set up a secretariat at that of TAC.

The foundation of the Interpreting Committee of Translators Association of China provides a new platform for China’s interpreters and practitioners and will promote the healthy development of the interpreting industry. The committee will forge ahead under the leadership of TAC and the support of all colleagues from home and abroad to serve for interpreting teaching, research and practice.
