In order to promote the cooperation between universities and enterprises and help universities to upgrade, Xi’an FanYi University (hereafter referred to as “XFU”) and Global Tone Communication Technology Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as “GTCOM”) signed the Agreement on University-Enterprise Cooperation in Sept., 2016 upon negotiation. In the morning of 20th, Oct., GTCOM awarded the plaque for establishing Cross-Language Big Data Laboratory to XFU. The awarding ceremony was held in the Technology Building of the University, and hosted by Li Yan, the Vice Dean of XFU. Qi Yushui, Vice President and Dean of XFU, Yang Dafu, Dean of Foreign Language School, Fu Yalin, Vice Dean of Foreign Language School and Dean of Translation Department, Guo Mei, Dean of Asian and European Language Department as well as Zhang Xiaodan, Deputy General Manager of GTCOM, Ni Yongjian, Manager of University Cooperation Department of GTCOM and Song Yuheng, Region Manager of the Department attended the ceremony.

In the beginning, Vice President Qi Yushui, on behalf of school leaders, expressed his warm welcome to Ms. Zhang Xiaodan and other representatives and then introduced the overall development and features of XFU by playing short video.

Qi said that XFU insists on the model of “foreign languages + expertise + innovation and entrepreneurship skills” and “profession + foreign languages + innovation and entrepreneurship skills” to cultivate application-oriented talents, promoting the upgrade of the university and pushing forward the cooperation with enterprises. The cooperation with GTCOM can improve its quality of educating talents, teaching, academic researching as well as GTCOM’s technology promotion and sound operation. He hopes that the two parties may deepen cooperation in future and realize resource sharing.

Ms. Zhang introduced GTCOM’s development and achievements in language service and language big data. She expects comprehensive cooperation with XFU in co-building courses, internship and practice, teaching, researching, student employment and other areas. She also expressed that GTCOM will further plan cooperation based on both parties’ demands. She wishes the two parties successful long-term cooperation!

In the afternoon, Ms. Zhang made a keynote lecture on How to Be a Good Translator in many aspects like “Learning Skills”, “Interests Cultivation”, “Career Orientation” and others. She encourages university students to focus on knowledge accumulation and basic language abilities, pay more attention to details and translation skills, and increase the faithfulness, professionalism and readability of translations. She also encouraged them to develop a rational plan, make good use of time and opportunities to improve their professional quality and comprehensive capacity, and lay a sound foundation for the future career.
